    • FIRST AID BADGE- Boy Scouts of Shohola Troop #76 recently earned their First Aid Merit Badge. Milford Family Practitioner, Joe Cirello, MD, presented a relatively rigorous and interactive First Aid Course to the scouts over a three week period at the Milford Wellness Center. The First Aid Merit Badge is a requirement to earn the Eagle Scout rank. The course objectives included, but was not limited to: the term “triage”; signals of shock, stroke, and heart attack; demonstration of CPR, exposure to the AED; plan of action for severe laceration, fracture, anaphylaxis; and many other conditions and situations. Although the training focused on immediate first aid, the scouts were able to visualize equipment within one of the ambulances of Atlantic Health Care Systems that is available, once 9-1-1 is dispatched. The Boy Scouts of America believes – and through a quarter of a century of experience knows – that helping youth is key to building a more conscientious, responsible, and productive society. • FIRE SAFETY CLASS- The staff of Treasure House Child Development Center in Hawley attended Fire Safety Training with Scott Mead -Hawley Fire Chief- as the trainer last winter. The Fire Chief passed on informational training first and then we went outside for some hands-on training on the proper use of fire extinguishers. The staff was instructed on P.A.S.S. (Pull, Aim, Squeeze & Sweep) while using the fire extinguisher. They all had a turn extinguishing a real fire that the Chief had set up. The Treasure House Staff was excited to participate in this hands-on training.

    • PLANTING TREES- On Saturday, May 6 the Explorers planted five crab apple trees at the Salem Township park in Hamlin. This year is the 100th year of 4-H in PA and in order to help celebrate the centennial Wayne County 4-H is trying to plant 100 trees around the county at public areas for everyone to enjoy. If anyone would like to help the Explorers or any of the 4-H clubs with this project, contact the Wayne County Extension Office at (570)253-5970 ext. 4110.
