The First Grade of the Wallenpaupack Area South Elementary School will present their annual music program on Thursday, May 1.

The children will open the program with four songs using bells they made in art class under the direction of Debbie Pulst, South Elementary Art Teacher.  The songs are “Are You Sleeping, Mom and Dad?” also sung in French by the children, “Ding, Dong, The Bells Do Ring” by Carl Orff, “Hear the Bells Ring” and “Little Wheel a Turnin’,” an African American Spiritual.

The remainder of the songs form an “Animal Cycle.” with David Eddleman’s, “Animals on Parade,” leading the way! “One More River” tells the story of the animals on the ark!  This is followed by a folk song from Kentucky, “I Bought Me a Cat” The connection between singing and reading is highlighted as the children “sing” the favorite book/song “Baby Beluga” followed by the popular tune “Goin’ to the Zoo.”

Karlee Mangiello says, “I like bunnies.  They are very cute.”

Karli Mercereau says, “There a lots of monkeys at the zoo!”

The children then sing about worms from outer space, a smiling hippo and a penguin that polkas.  “Sidney, the Silly Centipede” has trouble doing most things because “his back legs keep on clapping while his front legs keep on snapping!”   Spelling skills are heard in “I Can’t Spell Hippopotamus” and the humorous song “Sneaky Snake” has the children wigglein’ and giggling’! “Three Little Fishies” by Saxie Dowell relates the story of what happens when you don’t listen to your mama!  The animal parade comes to an end with a folk song from Argentina “My Farm” where the children sing in Spanish!  The children leave the stage singing and waving goodbye to the “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” popular song “Heigh-Ho, Heigh-Ho."

Show time is 7 pm. in the school’s cafetorium under the direction of Jean M. Shields, music teacher. Principal Nancy Simon, Ed.D, reminds everyone the public is invited to attend the performance.
