A Matamoras man is in jail for allegedly stabbing a bartender after last call.

Steven Carl Krause, 46, was arrested June 25 at his home, according to State Trooper Michael Mulvey. Mulvey said Krause allegedly stab a 28-year-old Port Jervis, NY, man who was tending bar at Mr. Spanky’s Bar and Restaurant at Route 6 and I-84 in Dingman Township at about 12:30 midnight.

Mulvey reports Krause became upset after the bartender notified the patrons it was last call for alcoholic drinks. Mulvey said Krause spit beer at the bartender/victim. The victim, who was arguing on and off with Krause throughout the night, told Krause he was wrong for spitting at the bartender. Krause then exited the bar with the victim following him.

Police said witness report that within seconds, the victim was backing up through the doorway and into bar. The witness said he had his hands in the air and was yelling that Krause had stabbed him. Krause then fled the scene.

The victim was transported to Bon Secour Hospital in Port Jervis, NY, where he underwent emergency surgery for a punctured intestine.

Krause was arraigned before District Justice Alan Cooper and bail was set at $25,000. Krause was remanded to the Pike County Correctional Facility.
