“It's here, it's here, Christmas time is here…” Which can only mean one thing: It is time once again to enjoy the family holiday tradition that is so purely Poconos.
“It's here, it's here, Christmas time is here…” Which can only mean one thing: It is time once again to enjoy the family holiday tradition that is so purely Poconos. Tiny Tim's Christmas Carol, Pennsylvania Rep Company's original musical adaptation of the Charles Dickens classic, will light up the stage of the historic Sherman Theater in downtown Stroudsburg December 10 - 13, 2008. In its 18th year of performance, the show shepherds in the holiday spirit with a touching tale sure to warm the heart.
Tiny Tim's Christmas Carol, a musical interpretation by Poconos theater icons Michael Harron and Rick Cummins, is faithful to Dickens' timeless story of Scrooge, but told through the eyes of Tiny Tim. He meets the old “Humbug” just before Scrooge fires his father on Christmas Eve. Tim feels responsible, and in his attempts to set things to rights, unleashes an unfathomable chain of events aimed at saving Scrooge's very soul. It is only through the eyes of Tim, the “True Believer,” that Scrooge is able to see the truth of his life displayed by the Spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Future. The bond of friendship that forms between the invalid child and the old miser is a key factor in Scrooge's redemption. It is a lesson of the effect we can have on another's life if we open our hearts to the possibilities of friendship and concern. In short, it reveals the true spirit of the holidays which we should hold in our hearts the whole year through.
Tiny Tim's Christmas Carol is part of the Plays in the Curriculum Series which has become a semi-annual event witnessed by thousands of area students and adults since 1990. Special school performances of Tiny Tim's Christmas Carol on December 10, 11 & 12 at 10:00 am engage local students in this time-honored tale of redemption. As in years past, there is a Q and A session with the cast and writer/director following each show. Study guides are available to teachers upon request.
In addition, two public performances will be staged December 12 and 13 at 8:00 pm. Admission to the student performances is $10 for students with teachers admitted free. Public performance tickets may be purchased for $12 (students under 18), $15 (seniors) and $17 (adults). For more information and to purchase tickets, please visit www.shermantheater.com or the theater box office at 524 Main Street in Stroudsburg, or call 570.420.2808.
