  • The Wallenpaupack Area South Elementary School Second Grade will present their annual music program on Monday, April 6 in the school’s cafetorium in Newfoundland. The patriotic opening includes the entire assembly saluting our flag and singing our National Anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner” followed by the Wallenpaupack Area School District’s Alma Mater.
The first song, “Our School Song” by composer Jill Gallina is very special. Gallina has written this song for and dedicated it to the children, faculty and staff of Wallenpaupack South Elementary School. Next is a selection of songs from the Gallina collection “Two for the Show” which sings of the joys of friendship. Songs are: “Two for the Show,” “Copycat Rag,” “Two’s for Havin’ Fun,” “Mirror, Mirror” and “Texas Tango.” Our tango dancers are Robert Eberle and Carly Magrone, Bradley Frick and Karli Merereau and Anthony MacDonald and Karlee Mongiello.
Our friendship theme continues with the children’s favorite “It’s Me!” by Carmino Ravosa and “I Care About Being Me” by Ned Ginsburg and Jeff Sorg. The popular song “We’ve Got Lots in Common” is from the perennial favorite “Charlotte’s Web” by the Sherman brothers. “American Children,” “Best Friends” and “Make a Rainbow,” a beautiful song with an important message by Portia Nelson, complete this section of the concert.
The finale is a set of songs from the “Rise and Shine!” musical “Let’s Pass It On!” by Michael and Jill Gallina. This musical encourages students to pass on good deeds thereby promoting positive feelings that will in turn make the world a happier place. The songs are “Pass It On,” “High-Five, Hand Jive,” “Smiling Is My Style,” “Let My Love Be Your Umbrella,” and “Don’t Drop the Ball.” Each of the five musical selections is preceded by an introductory narration and is in the form of a rhyming script. Speakers are: Cailin Campbell, Phoebe Cykosky, Angela Hussung, Peter McDermott, Cassidy Moore, Bianca Ortalano, Rachel Tirjan and Timothy Wilson.
When asked what is her favorite line, Rachel Tirjan said, “Do something kind for someone and you’re sure to find it’s true magically it makes a better person out of you.” The props used for these songs were made by Susy Toppi. For “Smiling Is My Style” Laura Rosnyoi and Amie Graczyk will hold large red lips and flip them as the lyrics change.
“Let My Love Be Your Umbrella” has Karlee Mongiello, Madison Nakielny and Julia Sennefelder dancing with umbrellas, Wesley Conklin shining the sun and Heidi Washburn, Timothy Holzapfel and Anthony MacDonald bringing in the clouds and rain! For the final song, James Folenta, Sara Sonnak, Jackson Orr, Joey Spinelli, Nicole Burriesci, Tony Catanzaro and Cameron Johnson are very good at following the directions of “Don’t Drop the Ball.”
Show time is 7 pm in the South School’s Cafetorium under the direction of Jean M. Shields, music teacher. Principal Nancy Simon said, “The public is invited to attend.”
