  • Divers Continue Search for Missing New Jersey Man

  • Divers continued efforts Wednesday to recover the body of a New Jersey man who disappeared while swimming on Lake Wallenpaupack Saturday. They are expected to continue the search Thursday.

  • Divers continued efforts Wednesday to recover the body of a New Jersey man who disappeared while swimming on Lake Wallenpaupack Saturday. They are expected to continue the search Thursday.
    PA State Police indentified the man as 48-year-old John J. Carvajal of Union County, NJ.  He was boating with family and friends when he decided to go for a swim around 11:30 am. According to police, Carvajal got in some type of trouble and called for help and went under the water. A family friend entered the water in an attempt to help, but was unsuccessful.
    Emergency crews responded and immediately set about trying to find the swimmer, with no success. they have been searching for him every since.
    Numerous rescue teams have responded from Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey, including the FBI, state police, state Fish & Boat Commission, and area volunteer response teams.
    Dive teams included: Tafton Fire Dive Team; Hemlock Farms Fire and Dive Team; Dingmans Dive Team; Ledgedale Dive Team; Westfall Township Rescue Boat and Dive Team; Port Jervis, NY Boat and Dive Team; Sullivan County, NY Boat and Dive Team; Sparrowbush, NY Boat and Dive Team; Jefferson Township, NJ Dive Truck and Dive Team; Picatinny, NJ Haz-Mat Truck and Dive Team; FBI Underwater Recovery Team; and PA State Police Underwater Recovery Team.
    Also aiding in the continuous search are: Tafton Ambulance, Lake Wallenpaupack Lake Watch, 1st Klas Marina, Blooming Grove / Porter Township Incident Command, Roemerville Road Promised Land Water Dog (K-9), PA State Police Honesdale, PA State Police helicopter, David May and Seamus (K-9), Ramapo (K-9), and others.
