Kids will be center stage this year at the annual Wayne County Builders Association Home Expo, as they build their own dream homes using nothing but LEGOs and their own imaginations.

The Third Annual Children’s Building Contest, sponsored by All About Improving of Beach Lake, will give kids age five thru 12 an opportunity to have some fun, build a LEGO home and win some fantastic prizes.

According to Laurie Lourie, executive director of the Wayne County Builders Association, there will be two age groups set up, one for five- to eight-year olds and one for nine- to 12-year olds.

“Last year’s building contest was so exciting and fun that we really felt this needed to be an annual event for the children in our community,” Lourie said. “We only have 40 spots available so parents need to register their children early.”

Lourie added that parents can pick up pre-registration forms at the following locations:  The Wayne County Builders Association or Clemleddy Construction (both located in the Palmyra Professional Complex on Shook Road in Hawley), The Honesdale National Bank (at the main branch in Honesdale) and Wayne Bank (on Route 6 in Hawley).  Forms can also be obtained by calling the Wayne County Builders Association office at 570- 226-4941 or by visiting our website at waynecountybuilders.com. The registration deadline is Oct. 5.  Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place and “Best in Show” in each age category.

The Children’s Building Contest will take place on Saturday, Oct. 10,  beginning at 1 pm as part of the Wayne County Builders Association Home Expo, which runs from 10 am to 5 pm on Saturday, October 10 and 10 am to 2 pm on Sunday, Oct. 11. The event is held at the Wallenpaupack High School on Route 6, near Lake Wallenpaupack.
