Linde Corporation, Inc., which started in Honesdale, announced it is adding 11 workers to its growing presence in the natural gas industry of Northeastern Pennsylvania

Linde Corporation, Inc., which started in Honesdale, announced it is adding 11 workers to its growing presence in the natural gas industry of Northeastern Pennsylvania.  “Construction work is seasonal and layoffs are normal at this time of year,” said Linde Vice President Robert McGraw.  “But here we are adding workers-- in January.  Growth is our 'new' normal.”  Among the hires will be three foremen, three pipefitters and several laborers.
Linde's growth stems from the natural gas being harvested from Pennsylvania's vast Marcellus shale deposits.  The company has increased from 175 employees as of July 2009 to 225 today.  Since June of 2009, the company has laid nearly 39 miles (205,000 feet) of pipeline to transport natural gas harvested from the wells.  Linde constructs drill pads which gas companies use when drilling down to the shale deposits.  The company engages in horizontal directional drilling (HDD) when its pipes must go under roads and wetlands.  Linde also repaves regional roads. “Our growth is a perfect example of how the natural gas industry is bringing new vitality to Northeastern Pennsylvania,” said McGraw.
Linde expects to add at least 50 more people in the coming months to keep pace with the natural gas industry.  In addition, Linde has opened transloading facilities at the sites of two formerly defunct rail yards, in Carbondale and Sayre, PA.  “These sites provide support for other companies coming to our region,” explained McGraw.  “We have installed weigh stations, laid thousands of feet of new track, built transload facilities to transfer materials between rail cars and trucks, and we have acres of storage area for out of state companies.  We think the natural gas business here will prosper for the next 30 years and we want to be part of it.”
