Fire erupted in an old cabin late Monday night, Jan. 24, at 249 Silver Lake Road, Delaware Township.
Delaware Township Volunteer Fire Department was called out at about 11:13 p.m. after several callers to 9-1-1 report a “fully involved” structure fire.
First Assistant Chief Steve Zuelch said that a man lived there by himself but was not home at the time of the fire. No injuries occurred to the responding emergency personnel or anyone else, Zuelch said.
The fire destroyed the interior, but the walls and roof were left intact.
Mutual aid was received from Dingman Township, Milford, Blooming Grove and Hemlock Farms fire companies, and Delaware Twp. Ambulance was on scene. Zuelch stated that the weather conditions made fire fighting  difficult, with snow falling, “sub zero” temperatures and icy conditions.
They were able to bring the blaze under control in about two hours, and companies were present for approximately three hours. The origin of the fire is undetermined and being investigated by the State Police Fire Marshal, said Zuelch.
Jeff Graeber is the new chief of Delaware Township Volunteer Fire Department (Company 28).
