State Police, Honesdale, issued a report, Jan. 24, about nails that were said to be intentionally placed on a Hawley intersection.
At 6 p.m., Jan. 2, unknown persons put nails near the intersection of Atkinson Avenue and Cypress Street. This is close to the Hawley Center school.
Cpl. Brian Vennie noted that this area has seen a large increase in traffic volume since the closing of Welwood Avenue due to the Hawley Silk Mill project. Vehicles traveling the street were subjected to nails puncturing the tires.
This action cuold lead to serious bodily injury should a damaged tire fail at higher speeds, causing a serious crash, the trooper warned.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the State Police at 253-7126. “Should the actor(s) be identified they will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” said Trooper Vennie.
