As winter slowly gives sign that spring is coming, Hawley Silk Mill continues to show signs of growth.
Another open house was held Friday, Feb. 25, where the public was welcome to take a look at the available business spaces for lease and see the extensive renovations of the historic factory on top the hill.
“We can expect 70 percent occupancy by June,” said Facilities Manager Mike Mitchell. “Working going down that road.”
Since the last open house in late January, a fitness center has come on board and a photography business has joined the other professional offices and firms taking up residency in the structure.
Lake Region Fitness expects to be fully open in June, with a full service gym. Fitness classes, free weights, machines and cardio will be offered.

Mitchell said that other leases are in the process of being signed. While he could not go into specifics, he offered generally that one is a medical facility, and the others are of a business and administrative nature.
Hawley Silk Mill LLC has contracted with Davis R. Chant Realtors to market space in the building. Will Clauss and Phil Arasimowicz are the exclusive agents for the project.
Clauss stated that there has been a lot of positive interest. The Hawley Silk Mill is being marketed over the Multiple Listing Service (MLS) which lists the project on about 50 web sites. Realtors in the region can direct clients to the project after seeing the MLS listing.
A new stone masonry sign has been unveiled along the entrance drive seen from Route 6.  As spring breaks, further work is planned on the landscaping, connection of the driveway with Route 6 and development of the triangular section, for additional parking. Leeward Construction is the contractor for this work.
