Share your hair for Locks of Love, at Baer Sport Center during an open house, Saturday, April 30. Three local beauticians will be on hand to receive your hair.
Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides vacuum fitted hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis.
Roni from Universal Hair Designs, Michelle from Shear Expressions and Teresa from Mane Creations are scheduled to be at Baer Spot Center that day. The hairdressers will be there from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
In addition, the beauticians will be providing regular hair cuts and donating the proceeds to Locks of Love. For those having their hair cut for Locks of Love, however, there is no charge.
This event will be part of Baer’s open house, which lasts from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Live music will be sounding from the band 30 Pack Joe. A hot and cold buffet catered by Fluff’s Deli will be available, at no charge.
Locks of Love meets a unique need for children by using donated human hair to create the highest quality hair prosthetics. The vacuum fit is designed for children who have experienced a total loss of head hair and does not require the use of tape or glue. The hairpieces help restore self-esteem and confidence.
The organization, which began in 19998, provides the hairpieces to children under age 21.  These hairpieces require between six to10 ponytails and take approximately four to six months to manufacture.
Donated hair is evaluated or it usefulness according to the following guidelines:
• It must be at least 10 inches, clean and dry.
• It must be bundled in a ponytail or a braid.
• Bleached hair cannot be used.
• Hair that has been dyed or permed can be used.
