Racing resumes at Penn Can Speedway in Susquehanna this Friday. The speedway will present a huge racing card including the first appearance of the season by the CRSA Sprint Cars.
They will join the modifieds, 602 sportsman, street stocks, factory stocks, and four cylinders. The event will be sponsored by Gary’s U-Pull-It of Binghamton, New York.
The CRSA Sprint Cars are part of one of the fastest growing sprint cars series in the country. The CRSA Sprints follow the popular RaceSaver rules that have become so racer friendly.
The concept of the RaceSaver plan is to prevent the big money teams from dominating the class. This concept has worked well with the CRSA Sprint organization as full fields of cars a normal at all the tracks they compete at week in and week out.
The CRSA Sprints have been competing at Penn Can over the last five seasons. The last race run was during the 2011 King of the Can Weekend. Over forty sprint cars signed into the pits with Tommy Martocci getting his first ever Penn Can Speedway win.
Jeff Van Steenburg, the latest CRSA winner, has had great success at the speedway winning multiple features. Other top runners expected include former modified competitor J.R. Hulbert, Craig Rochelle, Warren Alexson, Chad King, Tyler Rice, and Binghamton native Phil Peworchik.
The modifieds will also be in competition on this exciting night of racing. After four weeks the modified division has yet to have a repeat winner. Last week Dan Pompey took a hard fought win over Joey Grammes, Joe Colsten, and Grant Hilfiger. Kevin Bates, Kevin Hartnett, and Al Rudalavage also have 2012 modified feature wins.
The 602 sportsman division had its first repeat winner Friday with Grant Hilfiger capturing the win. Paul Rooney and Alex Stanton have also won.
Gates will open at 5:15 with racing at 7:30.
