Are you ready for some football?
If so, and the itch to see some grid iron magic is starting to strike you, come out to the Wallenpaupack stadium on Friday, June 8th for the annual Purple/White game.
“The Purple/White game is a culmination of our spring practices,” said Paupack head football coach Mark “Doc” Watson.
“We started it our first year coming in here and we thought it would be something that is fun for the kids to get involved in.
“It’s like Penn State’s Blue/White game, or Rutgers does the Red/White game, and it gives us the opportunity to see what the kids can do.”
The evening kicks off at 5 p.m. with the Powder Puff game, then from 5:30 to 6 p.m. there will be an autograph signing session by returning senior stars.
From there, there will be simulated quarters where Buckhorn players take the field and give fans a sneak peek at next year’s squad.
“The nice thing is, it is all of our kids. It’s all of our kids on offense and defense and we rotate them through so we can get an idea of who can play and who can’t, or who we need to switch into different positions,” said Watson.
In between quarters, there will be special events such as a tire flip, Juggs Gun run down, tug-o-war, and obstacle course, as well as a pass/punt/kick competition for kids in grades K-8.
“It’s a lot of fun and to throw the other stuff in there, the other competitions is added fun. The kids look forward to this and build teams and they go against each other in a fun atmosphere,” Watson said.
It’s never too early for a little football, and this free event is open to fans of all ages.
“The idea is get to the public out to see what we have for next year. It’s a free admission, there is food, hopefully this gets bigger and bigger every year.
“That’s the goal to get people out for a free night and see some football. We want to get the community excited about Friday nights and seeing our team. It’s a little preview,” said Watson.
