The free fair will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at the Park Street Complex (648 Park Street , Honesdale (right past Wayne Memorial Hospital) (rain or shine).  All are welcome to attend this free event. Each child visiting at least half of the "Safety" tables will be able to enter their name for a chance to win a new bicycle, donated by Elegante's Restaurant. A few of the safety issues being covered will be wild animal safety, bike safety (free helmets), toy safety and gun safety (free gun locks).
Some of the agencies represented include: Wayne County YMCA; Big Brothers/Big Sisters; Wayne County Conservation; Wayne Memorial Hospital; Wayne County Drug & Alcohol; Wayne County Sheriff; The Family Center; Wayne County Public Library; Early Head Start; American Cancer Society; Wayne County Emergency Operations Center; 911; Sprout Pediatric Dental and several others.  There will also be vehicles for the children to learn safety issues - Garing's will have a bus and speak about bus safety; Honesdale Emergency Medical Services will have an ambulance and the Honesdale Fire Department Fire Trailer will also be at the event. Maybe some surprises also!!
DJ Nicky Nick is donating his time to play music and food will also be available at no charge. Free fun activities and handouts will be there for the children to enjoy, including YMCA activities.
A car seat safety check will be taking place.
Did you know...   26,000 children are injured EVERY day?  22,000 young children die as a result of injury EVERY year?
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, over 8,709 lives have been saved by the proper use of child restraints. Yet, motor vehicle crashes are still the number one killer of children ages 4 to 14.
WHY?  Too often it is the improper use or non-use of child safety seats & booster seats.    95% of car seats are not installed properly!!
Make sure your children are properly secured - in an effort to educate parents and to ensure proper safety seat installation, Wayne County Safe Kids will host a FREE safety seat inspection from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at The Park Street Complex, 648 Park Street , Honesdale (right past Wayne Memorial Hospital).
Replacement car seats and booster seats are available at NO charge on a first come first serve basis.  One car seat per child will be offered.
Parents are asked to bring their vehicle's owner's manual & child safety seat instructions.
Parents should not be using 'hand-me-down' or used car seats and seats should not be used for more than 5 years. In either case, the seat should be checked and probably replaced. Parents should also not be using a seat that has been in a crash - even ifthe child was not in the seat at the time of the crash.
Page 2 of 2 -  Each safety seat inspection takes approximately 20 minutes. Refreshments and activities will be available at this jam packed event.
