Paupack freshman Chase Gallik wrestled his way through the Lackawanna League, turning heads and picking up a ton of wins.
Along the way, he collected 18 falls, and four technical falls and was named the team’s MVP at the end-of-the-year sports banquet held Friday in the school’s auditorium.
He’s not done yet.
Last weekend, in Mill Hall, at Central Mountain High School, he finished second in the Greco Roman, and third in Freestyle brackets to punch his ticket to the Asics Vaughan National Greco Roman/Freestyle Wrestling Championships to be held in Fargo, North Dakota.
“I just like wrestling a a lot, and those are the two styles that they have at the Olympics,” said the 113-pound Gallik.
“It was cool getting second and third, and there was a lot of really good kids there. There were a lot of people that placed at states and I did pretty good.”
Gallik, a Class AAA District Champ, will leave with the PA team on June 8th to begin training camp. The National tournament is scheduled to begin on June 16th.
“I’ve been training at least three days a week with wrestling still and I’ve been working out a lot by myself. I’m really excited to get there,” Gallik said.
“I’m going to keep practicing so I can get better and hopefully peak in Fargo and maybe be an all-American there.”
