Beginning September 1, and once a month thereafter on the first weekend of the month, members of Blessed Virgin Mary Queen of Peace and St. Veronica’s Parish will be collecting food for community pantries in Wayne and Pike counties.
Donations of food will be received between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. on Saturday and between 7:30 and 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.
The Food Collection Committee is asking for a full or partial bag of food items known to be highly desirable to food pantries, soup kitchens and other programs trying to meet the basic nutrition of people in need. The Food Committee has shopped the list of food requested in local food markets and found the cost of a full bag to be less tahn $25.
A full “bag” would include: two can of tuna, one box of unsweetened cereal, two boxes of macaroni & cheese, 2 can of green vegetables, one can of fruit, two cans of vegetable soup, two cans of baked beans, one box of powdered milk, one jar of peanut butter, one unbreakable jar or can of spaghetti sauce, and one pound of spaghetti or rice.
All food collected will be distributed by the food pantries. No food will be stored in either Blessed Virgin Mary Queen of Peace or St. Veronica’s church.
