  • The Delaware Highlands Conservancy is pleased to announce a new 2012 edition of the Shop Local Save Land Guide to Wood Products, Professionals, and Resources. The Shop Local Save Land Guide is an easy-to-use one-stop resource for finding local wood products businesses and providers, from consulting foresters to saw mills. The Guide connects landowners and consumers to forestry professionals, local wood products industries and services, and educational resources in the Upper Delaware River region.
The Conservancy publishes this guide as an extension of our award-winning Shop Local Save Land initiative (www.ShopLocalSaveLand.com), which began in 2008 with production of our popular and useful guide to local farms and farmers’ markets. The initiative encourages consumers to connect to the local farm and forest product providers of the Upper Delaware River region.
Complimentary copies of Shop Local Save Land Guides are available at many fine businesses, Visitors Bureaus,  Chambers of Commerce, and Conservation Districts, or may be found at both the PA and NY offices of the Delaware Highlands Conservancy, 508 River Street in Hawley, PA and 120 Segar Road in Kauneonga Lake, NY. Look for it at the Festival of Wood on August 4th and 5th at Grey Towers National Historic Site in Milford.
Our forests are important economic drivers for our region and good sources of local jobs. They protect vital drinking water sources for us and for everyone downstream-- the Upper Delaware River Watershed provides water to over 15 million people. That water is filtered by the healthy forests that thrive here.
The Shop Local Save Land Guide and website create a well-connected network of local wood products providers, forestry professionals, forest landowners, and the general public to foster the sustainability of healthy and economically productive forestlands.
Supporting local forest products businesses means supporting our locally sustainable forest economy, and it means the ability to sustain the forestlands we cherish.
Your choice to buy local through the providers listed in the guide and on the website can help our wood product businesses, services, and artisans to remain a vibrant part of our local economy. Your support of these important local businesses assures that our valuable forests are here for us now and will be here for future generations.
The 2012 Shop Local Save Land Guide also features profiles of some of the innovative businesses and organizations whose generous support helped to make this year’s guide possible, including Hotel Fauchere, the U.S. Forest Service at Grey Towers, the Pike County Scenic Rural Character Preservation Program (SRCP), the Pike County Conservation District, and the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR).
The companion website, www.ShopLocalSaveLand.com, provides searchable listings as well as interesting articles, upcoming events in the area, and a tool to design your own driving tour of farm and forest providers in the area.

The guide is printed on FSC-certified paper using soy inks.  For more information about the Delaware Highlands Conservancy, visit www.DelawareHighlands.org, email info@delawarehighlands.org or call (570)226-3164 or (845)583-1010.
