Francis J. Ward, 91 of Greentown, died on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center in Honesdale. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, the former Dorothy A. Barnhart. The couple married on December 16, 1955.
Born on September 17, 1920 in Saint Clair, PA, he was the son and last surviving member of the James and Catherine Flynn Ward family. He was a US Army veteran of World War II.
For 33 years he worked at Fischer & Porter in Warminster, PA where he was a machinist. He retired in 1983 to Greentown. He was a life member of the VFW 676 in Glenside and a life member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, formerly of Quakertown. An outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping, he was a member of the Promised Land Sportsman’s Assoc. and former treasurer. He was also a member of Queen of Peace Parish in Hawley.
Also surviving is his son Charles G. Ward of Dixon, CA; a daughter Dorothy A. Briggs and husband Paul W. Jr. of Lansdale, PA; 10 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and one great great grandson.
He was preceded in death by his sisters Veronica C. Ward and Margaret M. Robinson; a brother Leo Ward.
As per his request, there will be no public visiting hours. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 10th at Queen of Peace Church in Hawley at 10 AM.
