††The Greene Dreher Sterling (GDS)†Fair announced the 2012 Fair Queen contestants. The pageant was planned Tuesday at 6 p.m., the opening day of the 95th GDS Fair. Visitors to the fairgrounds this week can expect to see the reigning queen for 2012, and learn who was selected:ē Maddison DeFrehn, 17, of Greentown attends Wallenpaupack Area High School and is the daughter of Dawn and Dave DeFrehn.ē Olivia Funk, 16, of Lake Ariel attends Western Wayne High School and is the daughter of Noemi and Kevin Funk.ē Ashley Rivezzi, 18, of Lake Ariel attends Johnson College and is the daughter of Mark and Michelle Rivezzi.2011 Fair Queen Emma Lamberton offered the girls some advice, "Be genuine, both in person and in your pageant answers. If itís not something you would say to your friends, then donít say it just because you think thatís what a judge would want to hear. They will be able to tell that you are not being genuine. Also, donít forget to take pictures during the week of all the things you do!"The contestants are judged on an essay and an interview held prior to the pageant and their speeches and an impromptu question during the pageant. Judges also look for poise, neatness and appearance, stage presence and public speaking ability. The fair queen committee welcomes everyone to support these girls by attending the Fair Queen Pageant. It will be held on opening night of the GDS Fair, Tuesday, August 28 at 6†p.m. adjacent to the information booth, behind the South Elementary School.The fair continues through Monday, September 3rd. Come enjoy over 5000 agricultural exhibits, live music, games and rides,a demolition derby, numerous contests from the cutest baby to a dog show and even an animal dress-up event for livestock exhibitors.The admission price is $5 through Thursday, and $8 for Friday through Monday.
