John F. Geiger, 87, died on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at Tallwoods Care Center in Bayville, NJ.John was born in Bound Brook, NJ on June 19, 1925. He graduated from St. Peter’s High School in New Brunswick in 1943. He then honorably served as a gunnery instructor in the Naval Air Corp. from 1943 to 1946. Upon leaving the Navy, he studied finance at Rutgers University and graduated from the American Institute of Banking. While employed at the South Plainfield Lumber Company, John served as a Councilman in South Plainfield.In 1959, he became the owner of the J.F. Geiger Lumber Company in Stanhope, NJ. In 1970, John and his wife Anne bought and operated what would become Geiger’s Acorn Hill, a home for developmentally disabled adults, in Budd Lake, NJ. After 20 years, John and Anne retired to Lackawaxen, Pennsylvania. While in the Pocono Mountains, they devoted much of their time to volunteer work. They co-founded the Active Retired Seniors Club (ACTIREES); delivered Meals on Wheel to homebound seniors; worked with the Lackawaxen Fire Company and the Pike County Senior Center. At age 80, John became a licensed Pennsylvania Real Estate agent and worked for Gary Lacken Century 21 in Milford, PA.Mr. Geiger was predeceased by his oldest son, John F. Geiger, Jr.; his brother, Michael Geiger and sisters, Annette Barbati and Loretta Geiger. John is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Anne (Conroy); sisters, Miriam White (Dubuque, IA) and Sr. Jane Geiger (Baltimore, MD); brothers, James Geiger (Manasquan, NJ) and Richard Geiger (South Fort, NC). He is also survived by his four sons and four daughters: Cletus (and wife Sherry of Acadia, FL); Joseph (and wife Karen of Lanoka Harbor, NJ); Gerard (and wife Cindy of Port Murray, NJ); Thomas (of Plymouth Meeting, PA); Julie (of Hamburg, NJ); Sr. Justine, RSM (of Oil City, PA); Emily DeLeeuw (and husband William of Greely, PA); Rosemary Allen (and husband Gary of Hackettstown, NJ). John was also "Grandpop" to 23 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.Visitation will be Tuesday, September 4, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Stroyan Funeral Home in Milford, PA with a funeral mass to follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church in Greely, PA.
