The Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of Peace, and St. Veronica’s Parish reports that its first Bag a Month food collection was an overwhelming success. More than 100 bags of non-perishable food was donated and distributed to the Lakeville Food Pantry, one of three local food pantries chosen to receive the food each month on a rotating basis. A food pantry in Tafton will receive donations received the first weekend in October and the food pantry in Honesdale will receive food collected the first weekend in November. The food program is somewhat unique in requesting a full or partial bag of specific food items, to include: two tuna, two green vegetables, two vegetable soup, two macaroni and cheese, two baked beans, one unsweetened cereal, one fruit, one pound spaghetti/rice, one spaghetti sauce, one dry milk, and one peanut butter. Anyone wishing more information on the food program may call the Rectory Office at 226-3183. Donations are accepted in two locations: at the Parish Center building located behind the BVM Queen of Peace Church in Hawley on the first weekend of each month on Saturday between 4:30 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. and on Sunday mornings between 7:30 a.m. and 8 a.m., 8:45 a.m. to 9:15 a.m., and 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at St. Veronica’s Church in Tafton on Saturday between 4 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. and on Sunday between 9:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. Editor’s Note: The Lakeville Area Pantry is part of the Wayne County Food Pantry program. The Lakeville site is at the Paupack Township Municipal Building on Daniels Road, off Route 590. The pantry will be open this month from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., on Thursday September 27.
