Doors at all locations will open at 8:30 a.m. There will be a number system used to facilitate the flow. If someone wants a flue shot, they must go to the Senior Center on the day the shot is given and pickup a numbered ticket, and then they will be told of their vaccination time. The reasoning is so people can leave and come back at their scheduled time. Manager of Wayne Memorial Home Health, Mary Lou Hoffner, RN said hospital personnel will follow the Centers for Disease Control recommendations for this year’s flue shots. Meaning, flu shots will be prioritized for people age 60 or older and people at risk who have a prescription from their physician. Direct patient care will be provided by health care workers and residents of long-term facilities will also be on the priority list. Children will not be offered flue shots at these clinics. Some insurance plans, including Medicare, Geisinger Health Plan and First Priority come flu shots. Have your insurance information available on the day of the clinic. Blue Cross and Medical Assistance Access to not cover flu shots. The private pay charge is $25.00. The Department of Health provides a limited number of doses, costing $5.00 such as with, for example: Medical Assistance. Call ahead if you need special consideration. Usually given in the arm, a "flu shot" contains an inactivated vaccine (killed or dead virus) that is given with a needle. Flu shots are approved for people older than 6 months, including healthy people and people with chronic medical conditions. Pike County Area Agency on Aging will offer flu shots on Wed, Oct. 17 and Tue, October 23. Call (570)775-5550 for more information.
