Anyone driving on East Harford Street in Milford can see the quick progress of the new Pike County Public Library. Known as the Dorothy E. Warner Building, Library Executive Director Ellen Schaffner said that the work is expected to be done by April 2013, but could be earlier. At some point after that, the library will have its big move, from the historic Community House a half block away. She affirmed it was quite exciting to see the new facility taking shape, and allows the public to visualize what is coming. Zitone Construction of Montague, NJ is the general contractor. The construction cost of $2,345,000 does not include furnishing. A capital fund-raising campaign continues. Funds at present will allow completion of the upper level. If money allows, the lower story, containing a community room, storage and collection expansion, can be finished at the same time. The project broke ground in October of 2011. Upcoming fund-raisers include: • Oct. 13-14 annual book sale, hosted by Friends of the Pike County Public Library, at the American Legion in Milford. 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. Sunday. • Oct. 13 Saturday, Black Bear Film Festival presents “Eleanore’s Secret” at Milford Theater, benefiting the Library. • Oct. 19, Friday- annual luncheon hosted by Friends of the Pike County Public Library, at Mount Haven Restaurant.
