HAWLEY - Another animal blessing service is planned at the Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church, Saturday, Oct. 6, at 11 a.m. Pet owners are invited to bring their pets to the church parking lot, at the corner of Church Street and Wangum Avenue in Hawley.The "Blessing of the Animals" is hosted by the Altar & Rosary Society and will be officated by Father Richard Beck. The ceremony is in celebration of the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi.St. Francis medals for your pets will be available for the first one hundred at $5.00 each. The medals are engravable; they come with a prayer card and also a hook, so your pet can wear the St. Francis of Assisi medal proudly. Purchasing of the St. Francis medals will be available at 10:30 a.m., prior to the Blessing of the Animals.Please make sure all pets are secure/leashed and we ask that you clean up after your pet.Treats for "People" and "Pets" will be for sale, before and after the blessing.The actual date of the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi is October 4th - a day inspired by St. Francis of Assisi, whose life exemplified harmony between humans and nature."Francis of Assisi was a poor man who astounded and inspired the Church by taking the gospel literally— not in a narrow fundamentalist sense, but by actually following all that Jesus said and did,joyfully, without limit and without a mite of self-importance," said church officials.
