The Hawley Harvest Hoedown is set to take place on Saturday, October 13th kicking off at 10 a.m. with a wide variety of traditional games, activities, craft vendors, and entertainment. While much of the Hoedown action will be centrally located on Main, Keystone, and Church Streets, the Downtown Hawley Partnership, which presents this event each year, reminds you to be sure to explore all of the shops, galleries, specialty retailers, and eateries throughout the community. Many businesses will be offering special activities and promotions to mark autumn harvest time at this annual event. Start off your day browsing among the various vendors, while the kids (big kids, too!) try their hands at pumpkin decorating, face painting, and games. There will be a wide selection of old fashioned food items including baked goods, maple syrup, kettle corn, smoothies, and more. Don’t miss the popular pumpkin patch, and listen carefully to the clippity-clop of horses’ hooves on a hayride. Check out B. Madigan on Keystone Street and see jewelry being made, and don’t miss the demonstrations and activities offered by the Wallenpaupack Historical Society. At approximately 12:30 you’ll want to get a seat at the “haybale theatre in the round” near the Ritz Theatre marquee to hear this year’s headliner entertainment when Freight Train Boogie returns with their own unique style of bluegrass and other tunes. Plan to stop by the Mill Market at the Hawley Silk Mill and celebrate Oktoberfest from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. featuring samples of traditional German sausages from the Alpine Wurst & Meat House paired with samples of Stoudt Brewing Company’s Oktober Fest, made is Adamstown, PA. Also during the afternoon from approximately noon to 3 p.m. take a stroll over to Bingham Park and say “hello” to Smokey Bear and the Hawley Fire Department as they mark Fire Prevention Week. See the fire trucks and learn things about fire prevention and safety that you might not already know.
