State Police Honesdale investigated a crash Sunday morning, Oct. 28, where a woman was found dead in her car after it submerged in a pond.
Jessica Daniels, age 31, of Honesdale, was pronounced dead at the scene in Clinton Township, north of Waymart, by Coroner Edward Howell.
According to Trooper Brian Rickard, Daniels was traveling east on South Smith Road approaching the intersection with Route 296, the Belmont Turnpike. This was sometime between 1 and 7 a.m. For an unknown reason, she failed to stop at the posted stop sign. The 2009 Honda Civic traveled straight through the intersection and off the roadway. The car climbed a small embankment and continued into a pond, where it became completely submerged.
A neighbor spotted the car at about 7:30 p.m., WNEP reported. Scott Township Dive Rescue Team responded, along with Waymart and Browndale Fire Companies. After an underwater search, the vehicle was located at approximately 9:30 a.m. The driver, who was Daniels, was found inside.
