John M. Kretsch, age 86, of of Greeley, PA, died Sunday, October 28, 2012, at home. He was the son of the late Albert Kretsch and Anna VanOlden Kretsch Molenstra, who preceded him in death. John was originally from Fair Lawn, NJ, he moved to Greeley when he reited from the Passaic County News after 48 years. John loved playing the guitar and the organ. He also loved Pennsylvania, calling it “God’s Country.” John was the President of Bear Ridge Property Owners Association for ten years and was a member of Cole Memorial Baptist Church in Hawley, PA. John was also a member of the Newspaper and Publishers Union. He was a former volunteer fireman with Fair Lawn, NJ, Co. #2. John was a veteran of the Korean War, serving as a radioman with the Army. He was an awesome husband, father and Pop-pop. John is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Alma; his son Jeffrey Kretsch and his wife Livia; his daughter Donna Salinas and her husband Ramon and his daughter Marie Gomes and her husband Richard; his grandchildren John Salinas and his wife Amanda, Christopher Salinas, Daniel Salinas, Ray Salinas, Lauren Salinas, Marc Salinas, Shayna Gomes, Noah Gomes and Richard Gomes; his sister Shirley Werhell; his sister-in-law Veronica Kretsch; and several nieces and nephews. John is also survived by his dog Daisy who stayed with him until the end. He was predeceased by a brother, Albert Kretsch. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 5, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Teeters’ East Chapel, 505 Church St., Hawley. The funeral will be on Tuesday, November 6, at 10:30 a.m. at Cole Memorial Baptist Church, Church St. and Bishop Ave., Hawley, with Pastor Sal Santoli officiating. Burial will be held at Green Gates Cemetery, Hawley.
