  •  Eastern Pike Regional Police net two awards

  •  The Eastern Pike Regional Police Department received two awards for it’s participation in aggressive driving enforcement activities. The enforcement was conducted July 9 through August 16 on roadways throughout Matamoras Borough and Westfall Township. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) awarded Sergeant David Zegarski and the department certificates of appreciation for their roll in continued efforts to curtail aggressive driving on state and local roadways in 2012. The aggressive driving enforcement is a part of the Pennsylvania Aggressive Driving Enforcement and Education Project and is funded by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Participating police departments wrote 3,179 aggressive-driving related citations in this years enforcement wave, including 1,489 for speeding. Disobedience of traffic control devices/signs was the second most-common offense, resulting in 585 citations. The extra traffic enforcement also brought about two felony arrests, 31 arrests and 18 drug-related arrests.
