NEWFOUNDLAND- The Fourth and Fifth Grade Chorus of the Wallenpaupack South Elementary School will present their first concert of the school year on Monday, December 3 at 6:30 p.m. in the school’s cafetorium. The chorus will sing a variety of songs in unison and harmony which celebrate December holidays.
The concert begins with the beautiful 2 part harmony song "A Holiday of Music" by Teresa Jennings. "Christmas Through the Eyes of a Child" by Jennings describes how a child sees the holiday as happy, merry, bright and filled with light! The children’s voices soar on the "glorious" part! The chorus sets out the rules for Christmas in the song of the same name! "Be kind. Be gentle. Be grateful. Be nice. Be friendly. Be good." That should get us on the Big Boy’s List! We hear a Celtic style in the arrangement of "Here We Come A-Caroling" by John Riggio. Next is the lovely French carol "Bring a Torch, Jeanette, Isabella," adapted and arranged by Karl Hitzemann. The chorus pokes fun at some of the phrases in carols with "O, What Is Figgy Pudding?" by Jennings!
They ask in song: "What are bells on bobtail ring?" "How do you see a blazing yule?" "Who would want to strike a harp?" and other confusing questions! "North Pole, North Pole" by Teresa Jennings and arranged by Paul Jennings is a playful parody of the ever-popular "New York, New York." The South School’s own Rockettes may make an appearance! Santa’s own reindeer, Blitzen, will make a guest appearance as he boogies through the audience to "Blitzen’s Boogie" by Teresa Jennings, arranged by Paul Jennings! "Jingle Jive," a fun adaptation of "Jingle Bells" arranged by the Jennings team will feature the boys of the choir playing melody bells! Johnny Marks hit song, "Holly, Jolly Christmas" is next using an arrangement by Jill Gallina.
This holiday concert comes to a close with a stunning visual of candlelight and the meaningful song "Just One Candle" followed by "Hot Chocolate!," the big-band style swing number from the blockbuster holiday movie "The Polar Express." After the show chorus members will then enjoy a cup of hot chocolate, courtesy of Newfoundland’s restaurant, The Hotel.
The chorus will also share their gift of song in the local community when they perform for the Newfoundland Area Women’s Club at the French Manor. They will also be performing at the Steamtown Mall during the holiday season.
