Come costumed and masked – or simply ready to have fun—at the 72nd annual Wayne Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Mistletoe Ball on January 19, 2013 at Ehrhardt’s on the Waterfront in Tafton. The theme this year is Masquerade and proceeds will benefit Wayne Memorial’s very youngest patients, the newborns in its New Beginnings Birthing Suites.
"Last year, our theme was the Roaring Twenties and it was very well received," said Shauna Ridd, event chairperson, "who knew so many people would love getting dressed up in period costumes? We believe this year’s theme will be just as enjoyable, if not more so. And who wouldn’t want to help newborn babies? Come join us!"
The annual dinner dance will support several projects in the maternity unit, including a much-needed, hospital-grade "baby weighing scale" and renovation of the nurses’ station which is adjacent to the newborn nursery. The New Beginnings staff is thrilled, as are many area parents.
"Two of our three babies were born at Wayne Memorial," said Tim and Heather Meagher, Honesdale, "and both times we had a wonderful experience. The staff is great, they really treat you like people, not numbers. The Mistletoe is helping a truly worthy cause."
The event kicks off at 5:30 pm with cocktails and entertainment by the JP Bowersock Jazz Quartet. Dinner follows at 6:30 pm, with dancing afterwards to the live band, Ronnie and the Riff Kings.
Guests can choose from a sumptuous dinner menu of either chicken Marsala, seared salmon or sliced tenderloin of beef. During the evening, they can also browse and sign up for beautiful gifts and gift packages donated for a silent auction that takes place after dinner.
"We’re very thankful to all our sponsors for helping to make the Mistletoe our biggest annual fundraiser for our community hospital," added Ridd.
The Wayne Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, some 200-plus members strong, annually raises much-needed funds to keep the non-profit hospital’s many services and programs vital and available to the public. The Auxiliary was the single largest donor to the hospital’s most recent capital campaign with a $570,000 pledge. The group organizes many events to help its cause, such as the Mistletoe and Showtime at the Ritz, as well as trips and sales of books, jewelry, uniforms and more.
Mistletoe tickets are $75 per person. For tickets, visit the hospital’s Gift Box shop or call (570) 470-2664.
"If you can’t come, please consider donating to the cause anyway," said Ridd, "all levels of donations are welcome."
