    Joseph John McGinty, age 86, of Hawley died Friday, December 21, 2012, at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center, Honesdale. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, the former Josephine B. DeGeorge, in 2002.
    Born May 31, 1926, in Hawley, PA, he was the son of the late James M. and Julia M. (Hammill) McGinty. He was a graduate of Hawley High School and East Stroudsburg State Teachers College. He received his Masters in Education Administration from Temple University.
    He served as Petty Officer First Class in the Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict where he was stationed on the hospital ships U.S.S. Tranquility and U.S.S. Winston.
    Prior to his retirement after 26 years in education, he was an Elementary School Principal in Pemberton Twp., NJ. He was a past member of P.S.E.A., N.E.A., N.J.E.A., and N.A.E.S.P.
    After having a vacation home in Hawley since the 1960’s, Joseph and his wife Josephine returned to Hawley to live full-time following his retirement. He was a member of BVM Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church, Knights Of Columbus Council 797, American Legion, Wilson-Kelch Post 311, VFW Robert Drake Memorial Post 5823, and was a former Deputy District Governor of the Lions Club in New Jersey. He was also a former Hawley Councilman.
    He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law: Sandra and David Cutler of New York City and Kathleen McGinty and Dr. Tom Caruso of Newtown, PA; a son and daughter-in-law: Joseph and Donna of Tabernacle, NJ; three grandchildren: Kelli, J. Ryan and James; a great granddaughter: Josephine; and a brother: James of Hawley.
    He was preceded in death by his twin brother, John Joseph.
    Calling hours will be Thursday, December 27, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Teeters' East Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley, PA. The Funeral Mass will be Friday, December 28, at 10:30 a/m. at BVM Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church, 314 Chestnut Ave, Hawley, celebrated by Rev. Richard W. Beck, Pastor. Burial will be in B.V.M. Queen Of Peace Cemetery, Hawley.
