State Police, Blooming Grove, report the arrest of a Deer Park, NY man in connection with burglary of numerous commercial businesses in eastern Pike County over two years ago.
A rash of commercial burglaries occurred from August through October 2010. They were located in Shohola, Dingmans Ferry, Dingman Township, Milford Borough and Milford Township.
Businesses were burglarized during nighttime hours and various items were taken. Left behind were damages due to the break-ins.
At the same time, Sussex County, New Jersey was also having a rash of commercial burglaries. These started in September 2010 and continued through the following month, and like in Pennsylvania, there were multiple burglaries each night. The New Jersey State Police investigated a burglary at the Montague Dairy Queen in their area on Oct. 18, 2010. The investigation led to the actor being identified as Julius Leonard, age 51, of Deer Park, NY.
Pa. State Police said that Leonard matched the physical description of the actor in the Pike County burglaries and he also acted by himself in the New Jersey incidences.
Leonard was taken into custody in Deer Park on a New Jersey warrant for a burglary on Oct. 25, 2010.
After further information was obtained, Pa. State Police filed charges against Leonard in January 2011 for at least 10 of the Pike County burglaries. Leonard was being held in New Jersey and awaiting court proceedings there. In November 2012, New Jersey advised that Leonard could be brought back to Pennsylvania for court proceedings. On Dec. 18 he was brought back to Pennsylvania and a preliminary hearing was held the day after Christmas. He waived the hearing and is awaiting further court proceedings.
Trooper Sandra VanLuvender is the investigating officer.
