  •  Police Annual Report: Narcotics cases drop

    A report for the year 2012 filed by Chief Daniel Drake, Hawley Borough Police Department, show numbers similar overall over the past three years, with some wider variations. Narcotic incidents addressed by Hawley Police, for example, were down significantly in 2012 with eight cases. There were 43 in 2011, which was a sharp rise from 18 in 2010.

    Under Criminal Matters in 2012, disorderly conduct led the criminal incidents, with 40 (31) cases. Next came theft, 27 (20); criminal mischief, 20 (36) and harassment, 18 (22). Driving under the influence (DUI), which criminal, is listed under Vehicle Matters; there were 17 DUI arrests last year (21 in 2011).
    Other crimes included burglary, 2 (3); public drunkeness, 2 (3); retail theft, 8 (2); assault, 2 (4) and domestic disputes, 7 (8).
    There were zero incidents regarding firearms (3 in 2011), robbery (0) and underage drinking (6).
    There were 50 people arrested by Hawley Police in 2012; there were 93 arrested in 2011 and 64 in 2010.
    Officers issued less tickets in 2012: Traffic warnings, 86 (125); traffic citations, 149 (296) and non-traffic citations 12 (29). In 2010, tickets issued totaled 164 traffic warnings, 317 traffic citations and 24 non-traffic citations.
    Hawley Police responded to 29 motor vehicle crashes in 2012; there were 21 in 2011 and 29 in 2010.
    Also in 2012, were the following: ordinance violations 7 (4); assist to Hawley Ambulance 6 (1); assist to Hawley Fire Department 2 (3); assist to other jurisdictions 2 (10); alarms 11 (20); warrants served 12 (11); total other incidents 1168 (1179).
    Hawley Police vehicles traveled 17,400 miles in 2012; the year before, they traveled 19,274 miles. Unit 12 used 827.5 (1044) gallons of gasoline and Unit 13 used 773 (801) gallons.
    The part-time police force put in 3,984 hours on duty in Hawley Borough, and 346 hours in Palmyra Township (Wayne), where the Borough has a contract for police services.
    These hours are similar to the past two years.

    In their monthly report, Hawley Borough Police in December 2012 logged: Under criminal matters, disorderly conduct 3; theft 1; harassment 1; criminal mischief 2; domestic disputes 1.
    Under vehicular matters, traffic warnings 1; traffic citations 3; motor vehicle accidents 3; DUI 1.
    Miscellaneous, assist to other jurisdictions 1; non-traffic citations 1; arrests 2; total all other incidents 66. Miles traveled totaled 1,103. Hours totaled 269.5 in Hawley Borough and 22.5 in Palmyra Township (Wayne).
