  •  School Board honors outstanding seniors

    Three seniors were honored by the Wallenpaupack School Board, Jan. 14, for their academic excellence and utilization of co-curricular opportunities.
    • Lisa Beilman, daughter of Karen and Michael Beilman, has been active with peer helping and tutoring, VIP and Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD). She plans on attending the University of Pittsburgh to study Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics.
    • Gigi (Gihan Gail) Elashram, daughter of Melynda Wilson and Ehab Elashram, has been active with Mick Trail, WAHS Players, Concert Choir, Marching band, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Chamber Choir, JV Tennis, Varsity Tennis and Varsity Track & Field. She plans to attend a four year university and major in Business Administration, and later attend law school.
    • Jeremy Oettinger, son of Melinda Oettinger, has been involved with Gifted Education and Weightlifting, both for four years. Jeremy's future plans are to major in Engineering at Penn State or Wilkes University.
    Oettinger showed a video to the School Board which he made for his senior project. It was a short documentary about the School District's newly installed energy system.
    Other matters:
    • The following parents, business and community representatives were named to the District's Comprehensive Planning Committee: Jim Shook, Tom Regenski, Maura Rottmund, Mark Pappas, Erin Alli, Rachel Glauner, Gayle Strohmaier and Lea Peoples.
    • Claire Geirwatowski was approved as a bus driver, and Jennifer Wilding as a van driver.
    • The following substitutes were approved: Colleen Dulay, Early Childhood/ Special Education; Jenette Kiesendahl, English and Anna Koberlein, Early Childhood. Elementary English.
    • Approved as long-term substitutes were Hollie Cavvacale, for Ann Catalano, 6th grade Middle School; Aaron Lenz, for Harry Timmons, North Intermediate Title I teacher and Ryan Drake, for Ann Marie Delaney, North Intermediate 4th grade teacher.
    • Erin Vennie was approved as a guest teacher.
    • Rosemary Martynuk was approved as a Middle School personal care assistant.
    • Lorraine McCormack was approved as a teacher assistant at the Jefferson Center.
    • Karen Calabrese was approved as a North Intermediate personal care assistant.
    • Maureen Clifford and Janet Nolan were each approved as mentors.
    • Uncompensated leave was approved for the remainder of the school year for Deborah Bigart, North Intermediate 3rd grade teacher.
    • Sabbatical leave was approved for the second semester for Ann Catalano, Middle School 6th grade teacher.
    • Family & medical leave request was approved for Theresa Fasceski, Hawley Center teacher assistant, on an intermittent basis for the rest of the school year.
    • Family & medical leave request was approved for James Quiles, High School custodian, for 12 weeks.
    The next Wallenpaupack School Board meeting is set for Monday, Feb. 11 at 6 p.m. in the High School Library. A committee meeting precedes it at 5:30, which is also open to the public.
