REGION- State Rep. Frank Farina, D-Lackawanna/Wayne, will host two workshops for local first response groups on Feb. 20 at the Lackawanna County 9-1-1 Center, 30 Valley View Business Park, Jessup.
From noon to 3 p.m., Samantha Dorn, a senior grant consultant, grant writer and reviewer, will offer tips, advice and training for local fire companies and EMT departments that are looking for funding to reduce local costs and to acquire surplus equipment.
From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Fire Commissioner Ed Mann will answer any questions the local departments may have.
Light refreshments will be available.
“The search for grant money is more critical for these local groups than ever before,” Farina said. “With the state looking to limit spending, and local governments trying to avoid massive tax increases, these groups need to supplement their funding elsewhere, and this workshop will provide great instructions as well as sources to assist them. Commissioner Mann will be able to follow up on any questions that arise from the earlier grant-writing session.”
The workshops are free, but reservations are required. Interested first response organizations should contact Farina’s constituent service office at 570-876-1111or email firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve a spot.
