Emerging artist in the Americana music scene and award winning banjoist and songwriter, Bailey Cooke showcases her old-timey Americana songs fused with a contemporary flair on Friday, February 22nd in the newly renovated and authentic Boiler Room of the Hawley Silk Mill.
Bailey Cooke came from a long line of cotton mill workers out of the piedmont area of North Carolina and spent her college years following around older folks to fiddler’s conventions. Eventually, Cooke found her place in Nashville and settled there until she was uprooted by the 2010 flood – a moment which is revisited in her songs. Bailey does her best to keep country traditions thriving while adding in new innovative musical thought to create a style all her own.
These efforts result in complex and rich sound reminiscent of artists like Gillian Welch, Lucinda Williams and Sheryl Crow. Bailey has won banjo contests at fiddler’s conventions all over the South and keeps history an avid part of her musical creativity, as she continues to write and perform.
