  • HARRISBURG- The Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) will hold its second Music Education Advocacy Day at the Capitol in Harrisburg on Wednesday, March 13. During the event, individual and corporate sponsor members of PMEA , along with community members from school districts across the state, will hear remarks from Senators and Representatives, as well as attend concerts throughout the day. Plus, they will meet with their legislators to share the message of the importance and value of a K-12 sequential, standards-based arts curriculum taught by certified arts educators.
    Attendees are expected to arrive beginning around 9 a.m. with the main presentation taking place at 10:30 a.m. in the Main Rotunda. Instrumental and vocal performances will take place between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. The public is welcome to attend the event. More details will be forthcoming. The present membership evolved from a small group of band directors dating from 1933. Today, the organization includes those engaged in music instruction at all levels, from preschool through college and university, as well as those in the music industry, merchandising and publishing. The organization promotes and supports quality music education, learning and performance as well as promoting and supporting music education in schools and communities. PMEA is affiliated with The National Association for Music Education, NAfME.
