SMALL TOWN SHEIKS
SMALL TOWN SHEIKS was formed in 2009 by long time musical collaborators and friends John Irizarry and Mike Smith. Their debut CD "Songs For Parker" was released in 2010 on Aurasonic Records and was produced by three time Grammy Winner, Steve Remote. Maverick Magazine, the UK's leading Americana Magazine, praised "Songs for Parker" saying that "It leaves you utterly enthralled".
With a solid collection of material ranging from bluesy rockers to socially conscious multi-rhythmic journeys to achingly beautiful ballads, the record showcases John Irizarry's intimate, carefully crafted songwriting that draws from the best elements of the American musical experience. Musically punctuated by Mike Smith's expressive and uniquely original harmonica playing, "Songs For Parker" provides music that Alt.Country Forum calls "Energetic, dynamic and intense" and "immediately distinct and recognizable."
The addition of World Percussionist Obi Kaye to the group in 2012 provides a polyrhythmic base that allows for instrumental explorations within the the framework of their solid collection of musical material.
