Charges including Animal Cruelty were filed Saturday, Feb. 23 against a Pike County woman after an emaciated dog was found in an abandoned home.
Marlene Metzger, Pennsylvania Humane Society Police Officer at Dessin Animal Shelter, reported that Jessica Cortes of Dingmans Ferry, was charged with Animal Cruelty and PA Dog Law violations.
An anonymous tip led authorities to the abandoned home. A Humane Society officer and dog warden viewed the dog, a five-year old female Catahoula, through a broken basement window. The animal appeared emaciated.
The dog was surrendered by Cortes to the Dessin Animal Shelter, just north of Honesdale. Metzger said that the dog received immediate medical care and has been released in stable condition to a foster
    home.
