Checks totaling $6,000 were recently presented to the Tafton Water Rescue Team and Ledgedale Dive Team, money raised at the second annual Paupack Plunge.
The event, hosted by Lighthouse Harbor Marina, was held on a bitterly cold day, Saturday, Feb. 16. They had 152 people plunging into the icy water of Lake Wallenpaupack, more than twice as many as last year.
"We are extremely pleased with the response to this year's event," stated Kevin Gil, Lighthouse Harbor Marina. He said that the amounts raised by each team were also double what it was in 2012.
There were also more younger plungers with the the youngest was approximately 5 years old. Plunge sessions were done ever half hour from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. There were also two half hour plunge sessions "In Memory of". The event took place at the shoreline of Lighthouse Habor Marina in Greene Township.
PaupackPlunge.com is now a remembrance site with image galleries, videos of the plunge and PDF displays of the check, list of plungers, sponsors, donators and more. People can still donate to the two charities via PaupackPlunge.com using PayPal, said Gil. DVDs of the plunge will be available soon.
Next year's event will be Saturday, February 15, 2014.
