Property Tax/Rent Rebate Applications Now Available
Applications for the 2012 Property Tax/Rent Rebate program are now available. The program provides participants with rebates of up to $650 based on rent or property taxes paid in 2012. The program benefits income eligible Pennsylvanians who are 65 years or older, widows and widowers 50 years or older, and those 18 years or older with permanent disabilities. Income limits are set at $35,000 for homeowners and $15,000 for renters. The Property Tax/Rent Rebate program is one of many initiatives supported by the Pennsylvania Lottery, which dedicates its proceeds to support programs for older Pennsylvanians. Since the program began in 1971, $4.8 billion has been paid to qualified applicants. Examination of the State Budget Proposal Continues
The House Appropriations Committee, of which Rep. Mike Peifer (R-Monroe/Pike/Wayne) is a member, is continuing its hearings this week on Gov. Tom Corbett’s 2013-14 state budget proposal. Agency officials testifying last week included those from the Department of Transportation, Liquor Control Board, Department of Aging and the state and school employee retirement systems. ‘Honoring Our Veterans’ License Plates Now Available
Pennsylvanians can demonstrate their support for the state’s servicemen and women with an "Honoring Our Veterans" license plate now available from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. The cost of the license plate is $35, with $15 from the sale of each plate dedicated to the Veterans Trust Fund. The trust fund is administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs to provide grants to veterans service organizations and other charitable organizations.
