Saturday, March 16, the Delaware Valley Music Department will present the first ever Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) District 10 Jazz Ensemble.
Under the direction of professional drummer and band leader Sherrie Maricle, the ensemble will consist of a 23 member jazz big band and feature musical selections in all styles and genres jazz. Students from as far away as Kutztown High School will participate in the festival, in addition to featuring five Delaware Valley High School musicians.
Lance Rauh, the Directorof Bands at DV, said he is excited to host the first ever event. Similiar to other PMEA festivals, Rauh said the festival will showcase some of the best jazz students in the area. He added that, "Working with a world-class talent like Dr. Maricle will be an experience the students won’t soon forget."
Maricle is a Pocono based drummer who tours the world with her big band DIVA Jazz Orchestra and her jazz combo Five Play. With her bands, Maricle has performed at many of the world's most acclaimed music venues and major jazz festivals throughout the United States and abroad. DIVA has been featured on CBS Sunday Morning with Charles Osgood and was presented on the television special The Kennedy Center 25th Anniversary Celebration.
