The "2013 Self-Guided Maple Tour", featuring (10) area "Sugar Bushes", in Wayne, Susquehanna, Lackawanna Counties, is set for Saturday, March 16th and Sunday March 17th, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
The "Self-Guided Maple Tour" is an opportunity to informally visit "area" maple syrup producers and to follow the maple syrup making process from the tree, as sap, to the finished product of pure maple syrup, ready for use at your breakfast table.
"The Maple Tour is also a great opportunity to purchase locally produced, pure maple syrup, and, other maple syrup products<" said organizers,
Residents of Northeastern Pennsylvania, wishing to participate in the "Self-Guided Maple Tour", will need to pick-up or have access to a packet of information identifying area maple syrup producers, a brief narrative about this maple syrup operation, yearly production, maple syrup production equipment and directions to each "maple sugar bush".
The 10 area "Maple Sugar Bushes" participating in the "Self-Guided Maple Tour" include: "North" maple producers - Burke's Maple, Carbondale, Callenders Sugar House, Thompson, Nebzydoski's Maple Farm, Pleasant Mount and Augusta Acres, Beach Lake "South" maple producers include: G & M Maple Products, Dalton, Shemanski Maple Syrup, Waymart, Sugar Creek Maple Farm, Honesdale, Yatsonsky's Farm Market, Honesdale, Journey's End Farm, Sterling and Dave and Jane Altemier, Newfoundland.
In addition, "Self - Guided Maple Tour" participants can enjoy a "Pancake Breakfast" as they travel the tour. One breakfast is scheduled for Sunday, March 17th, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.., at the Pleasant Mount Emergency Services Hall, Pleasant Mount The sponsoring organization is the "Costello-Monahan-Brown American Legion - Post 964". The breakfast will feature pure, 100 percent Maple Syrup, produced in Northeastern Pennsylvania, along with pancakes, eggs, sausage, etc.
A second breakfast, sponsored by the "Ledgedale Volunteer Fire Company", Goose Pond Road, in Ledgedale, is also set for Sunday, March 17th, from 8 a.m. to 12 noon, at the fire company. This breakfast will also feature pure 100 percent Maple Syrup, locally produced, along with a variety of pancakes, sausage and eggs.
