Illegal fireworks

WAYMART - Two men from Waymart were arrested, Friday, March 8, for tossing lit fireworks from their vehicle.

The incident took place at 9:20 p.m., along Route 6 near the Waymart Convenient store.

State Police Honesdale reported that while on stationary patrol at this location, Trooper Urban observed one vehicle following another, west on Route 6. The accused, in the following vehicle, lit fireworks inside the vehicle and thew them out in the vicinity of the victim's vehicle. The fireworks exploded on the road.

A traffic stop was initiated at the top of Farview Mountain and contact was made with the accused. Fireworks were observed inside their vehicle. Arrested were Aurel Jovanov, 26, and Christopher Reilly, 22, both of Waymart. The victim was a 20-year old female.

Trooper Urban said that the incident awaits further court proceedings.


TEXAS TWP.- State Police Honesdale reported an incident of retail theft at K-Mart in the Route 6 Mall, Sunday, March 10.

A 17 year old male from Lake Ariel was arrested after he was apprehended attempting to leave the store with $105 worth of automotive LED/neon lighting. This was at 3 p.m. Trooper Urban said that the incident awaits further court proceedings.

Fire in Greeley

GREELEY - The American Red Cross of Wayne Pike

is assisting two adults and four children who were displaced by a fire on Well Road, Greeley, Pa., Sunday, March 10.

The Red Cross provided food, groceries, clothing/shoes, seasonal garments and two portable cribs to the family and will follow up with additional services, if needed.

Blooming Grove, Greeley, Dingman Township and other local fire companies were dispatched at 6:24 p.m. The scene was at Well Road and George Road.
