HONESDALE - The Wayne County Historical Society has announced the selection of its Interim Director, Franziska Zuercher-Mindrup. She is the former Director of Visitor Services at the Bern History Museum in Bern, Switzerland. Zuercher-Mindrup began work in January in order to familiarize herself with the museum before it re-opens in April.Three years ago, Ms. Zuercher-Mindrup moved to Scranton from Switzerland with her husband. He was the first professor hired for the new school of architecture at Marywood University. After having been a stay-at-home mom for three years, she is extremely excited to have found a position in her field. Franziska is sure that the Interim Director position is perfect for her since it allows her to keep a nice balance between the work she enjoys and her family.When asked why she was drawn to the position she said, "As a history major, I am fascinated by Honesdale’s important role in US history and I am looking forward to exploring what the museum has to offer in terms of artifacts and reviving the region’s past." Ms Zuercher-Mindrup was a standout among a highly qualified pool of applicants interviewed by the Board of Directors Hiring Committee. She takes over for long-time Director Sally Talaga, while Ms. Talaga takes a leave of absence.Elaine Herzog, president of the Wayne County Historical Society Board stated, "The Board of Directors and I are extremely pleased to welcome Ms. Zuercher-Mindrup as Interim Director. After a few short weeks it is evident that the Society’s ongoing initiatives have been placed in very capable hands.
