Florence Sanders, 84, longtime resident of Hawley PA died after a short battle with cancer on Saturday March 16th, 2013. She is survived by her loving daughter Susan Paras, son in law Michael and grandson Brett as well as her devoted son Richard Sanders, daughter in law Kay and granddaughters Lily and Sophie.
Florence moved from NYC to Hawley in the mid 1970’s and opened the gift shop Country Class with her uncle Emeric Hirsch, former owner of the Trading Post.
After selling Country Class you could find her most days behind the counter at Settlers Inn’s gift shop, The Potting Shed. She was always up for a game of Mah Jong or Scrabble and enjoyed evenings out to the movies and dinner with her large community of friends. Florence found great comfort in her renewed faith as a member of Temple Beth Israel, but by far her greatest love was caring after her three grandchildren and the children of her extended family.
An avid supporter of her local community, Florence was active in the Hawley Lake Wallenpaupack Chamber of Commerce, Volunteer Ambulance, Lioness’s, volunteering at Dorflinger's and various dog and cat shelters. Never without an opinion, but always the first to offer help when needed, Florence leaves behind many cherished friends and relatives.
A memorial service will be held at Temple Beth Israel, 615 Court St, Honesdale, PA on Saturday March 30, 2013 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Temple Beth Israel.
