An in-depth look at the brand-spanking new trailer for Kick Ass 2, plus the highly anticipated trailer for Wolverine.
Well folks, I've been absent on my blog duties as of late. As a treat, I'm going to get back into the groove by checking out the newest trailers for the hottest properties coming to the big screen this year. Check it out:
Kick-Ass was a graphic novel written by Mark Millar and John S. Romita Jr. that was adapted for film by writers Jane Goldman and Matthew Vaughn in 2010. This comedy action flick with an unapologetic R rating starred comic loving high schooler Dave Lizewski (played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson) who decided, for no reason and with no training or powers, to become a costumed crimefighter. He's joined by other kooky characters such as the extremely violent young Hit Girl (Chloë Grace Moretz) and Big Daddy (Nicholas Cage).
A new Kick-Ass 2 trailer has surfaced, featuring Chloë Grace Moretz as Hit Girl. This trailer is really worth mentioning because for one, if this popped up on your TV, you'd probably not immediately recognize it as a trailer for Kick-Ass. The beginning of it is staged like a coming-of-age drama, as Chloë's character is being told that high school is a chance for a fresh start. Cutesy music in the background faced with typical shots of high schooler-dom (the typical crowded lawn in front of a high-school, the walk down the hall, etc) reinforce the idea that this is just another family friendly movie. Then you see her at a dance or cheerleading tryout as she coaches her way through the process. She imagines a group of four ninjas about to attack, and then her dream opens up to reveal Hit Girl in all her glory, with a sly smile. The trailer ends with actiony shots of body-crunching fighting and a team up with the other main characters (and some newbies). It's certainly enough to get one excited for the film.
There are a few other trailers out that highlight the other main characters or detail more of the plot as well. Christopher Mintz-Plasse returns as the villain in this one.
Kick-Ass 2 is projected for release on August 16, 2013.
Wow. Talk about keeping things under wraps. First they release a teaser trailer that is literally only 6 seconds long, now today they've finally released an actual trailer. The International Trailer is 2 minutes and 28 seconds of awesome. Showing Logan aka Wolverine being located by a mysterious woman. The trailer shows a flash of Famke Janssen as Jean Grey from one of the X-Men films, so it does appear to follow the events of the X-Men movies rather than being another prequel (like Wolverine Origins).
The plot promises to fill a tall order. Logan is set to test his mortal and emotional limits while on a soul-searching (they say "life-changing" on IMDB, but let's face it, it sounds like Batman Begins, doesn't it?) in Japan while he faces a new, terrible nemesis. But the only thing that really detracts with the movie is the tagline "in 3D." Let's face it, slapping 3D on a movie doesn't mean it's any good.
The Wolverine is coming to theaters in July of 2013.
Man of Steel
Last but certainly not least is another comic book-origined blockbuster film. This one is a complete reboot of the Superman franchise, starting from Clark Kent's humble beginnings on the Kansas farm. Though the reboot idea had me on edge when it was first announced, this trailer reinstates my faith in the project. The trailer is stunning. The locales ranch from the family farm to the city of Metropolis to the arctic plains for the Fortress and beyond. The villain has already been announced to be Zod, the evil general from Superman's home planet of Krypton. You may remember Terrence Stamp portraying the character in the 1980 film Superman II. I just hope the story is amazing. Maybe this is what will finally kickstart the Superman franchise back into movie theaters. You can watch the trailer here.
Man of Steel will be released in June of 2013.
