DINGMANS FERRY - Since 1953, Cub Scouts across America have been designing, building, painting and racing their

Pinewood Derby Cars in local, regional and national races. The event is a chance for parents, guardians

and partners to bond with their Scouts and take pride in building a car that is on display for all to see.

On March 24, Cub Scout Pack 1003 got their cars lined up at the Dingman Delaware Middle School for what turned out to be an exciting race for all. The Scouts' cars were placed

in various places determined by their rank.

Tiger Cub, Wolf, Bear and Webelos Scouts witnessed how their Pinewood Derby cars flied down the track against the other Scouts from the Pack. Even the parents had a separate heat where they could enter a car and race against other parents for the bragging rights at the next Cub Scouting event.

During the race, cars zoomed at speeds of over 200 miles per hour based on the time and distance that they performed on the track. Scouts who finished with the fastest time were awarded a trophy and the chance to represent the Pack at the Delaware River District Pinewood Derby Race on April 13 at the Delaware Valley Elementary School. Along with racing. A panel of three judges decided who won the best paint job, most creative car, fastest-looking car and judge’s choice.

A special thanks to the leaders, adult volunteers and the school district for making this year’s

event a success. The Cub Scout Pack 1003 winner of the 2013 Pinewood Derby are as follows:
