HAWLEY- The Rotary Club of Hawley awarded its 2013 "Outstanding Business of the Year" to the News Eagle. This designation is awarded yearly to a business in the Hawley Rotary Club service area that best meets the Rotary standards of community service.

Past District Governor Melanie-Tek Visgilio presented the award to Peter Becker, Managing Editor of the Eagle at the regular club meeting on Thursday, April 18th. Also representing the News Eagle were staff Michelle Hessling, Publisher, Glenn Khoury, Multi Media Sales Manager, Katie Collins, Reporter, and Jim Murphy, Regional Manager.

In her presentation of the award, Tek-Visgilio mentioned that the News Eagle, serving Hawley, the Lake Region and Pike County were selected for its continuous outstanding effort to support and build a sense of community in Hawley. It has performed this valuable public service in several ways: (1) It is a significant voice and source of public information for area civic and not-for-profit groups, associations and other community organizations; (2) the News Eagle builds a sense of community through its superb, continued, in-depth series of articles and photographs of Hawley historical places and events; and (3) the paper builds community through its recognition of the accomplishments of area youth.

In accepting the award Peter Becker thanked the Club on behalf of the whole Eagle organization. Becker stated, "the award was very much appreciated and that it was an honor for the News Eagle to be part of the community. The News Eagle is an expression of who we are as a community and hope to carry on this tradition. It is a team effort on our part and the community."
